NEW: Discuss this post on Mashable’s Facebook Page

Facebook has been changing a lot of its key features this week, in an apparent shift in philosophy and focus. Facebook, always cognizant of the successes of other social media companies, has taken several cues from Twitter and other real-time services to make the changes. The most obvious one is the homepage change from the Facebook News Feed to a real-time Facebook Stream, which will be rolling out over the next week.

However, the influence of Twitter and others on the transformation of Facebook Pages cannot be overlooked. Facebook Pages used to be static locations that marked your brand’s territory on Facebook and allowed both celebrities and companies to post photos and gather fans. But Facebook has seen the success that brands have had on Twitter and realized that brands big and small need more tools and deeper interaction with customers in order to be effective.
