Boxee fiends chill out, the service works with the Apple TV 2.3.1 update

Apple sent out an update to the Apple TV last night, updating the box’s software to 2.3.1. No one really seems to be clear about what this update actually did (a network test, better iPhone remote performance?), but everyone is freaking out because as usual, the new software axed Boxee support. But really, it didn’t.

Boxee sent out an email today notifying users that Boxee will work just fine with 2.3.1. You simply need to reinstall it. Given that Boxee isn’t officially supported by the Apple TV, this doesn’t seem too unreasonable a request. Says Boxee:

So there you go. As they say, "calm down." An actual real problem for Boxee is that Hulu pulled its content off the service recently at the request of its content providers. Seeing as Hulu was one of the most popular features of Boxee and made the Apple TV integration simply brilliant, this is a major problem. The Internet erupted in outrage, and Hulu’s chief executive Jason Kilar sounded apologetic in having to make the move, but that still hasn’t brought the content back.
