Symantec takes on Mozy with cloud backup
Symantec is going to offer a cloud backup storage service for consumers, similar to the Mozy, Carbonite, and Spare Backup services
Symantec's consumer cloud storage will be available from April 1, according to Janice Chaffin, the president of Symantec's cloud division, as reported by Reuters.
Norton 360 users currently get 2GB of online storage for automatic backup to the cloud (i.e. a Symantec data centre). You can pay more to get more. The new service will be sold on its own, un-bundled, against EMC's Mozy and the Carbonite service. There are no branding, pricing, and configuration details available. Unlimited storage on Mozy costs around $60 annually, with Carbonite cheaper at $50 for twelve months.
Spare Backup supplies its cloud backup as a vanilla service to be branded by OEMs such as CarPhone Warehouse when they sell it on to their customers.

Hi Oz. Just to let you know, I work for www.nomadesk.com. We offer easy and secure file sharing, wherever you are. Being online is not required. I read your post on Mozy with great interest and just wanted to add NomaDesk to the mix in this discussion.
NomaDesk has already been on the market for some time, and we offer similar features geared specifically towards the need of the “digital nomad”. We are convinced that the more data gets synchronized, the more likely it gets compromised. Therefore, NomaDesk includes an encrypted virtual drive that keeps your files securely available off-line and remote file shredding and IP-tracking with TheftGuard. Of course, we impose no limits on storage and bandwidth. A Mac version is on its way.
So,
I would appreciate your review.
