Hard times all around for radio: Pandora adds commercials
It's been a tough week for radio. Here in Chicago, Ars Managing Editor Eric Bangeman was shocked by the dismissal of "Mac" from the "Mac, Jurko, and Harry" sports radio show. Despite making "only" $600,000 a year, Mac won't be back on AM-1000 as a declining ad market brutalizes media industries across the board.
Far deeper cuts came yesterday at Clear Channel, the radio behemoth with a public reputation so bad that the company hosts a debunking page for all the myths out there. (For instance, it's a "myth" that Clear Channel "organized pro-war rallies," though "approximately 1 percent" of local managers did participate in "pro-troop rallies." Etc.)
