Socialtext Brings Status Updates to the Enterprise
Socialtext, who offers a social networking and collaboration suite for businesses, is introducing status updates into its system. Dubbed Socialtext Signals, the feature asks Socailtext users “What are you working on?” obviously a play on Twitter and Facebook’s ubiquitous “What are you doing?”
To add to the experience, the company is also releasing an Adobe AIR client that lets you view status updates in real-time and filter them into different groups, like “colleagues” or “everyone," a Tweetdeck or Twhirl for business of sorts. However, as opposed to public facing microblogging tools, all of this takes behind the corporate firewall and is accessible only to users who have been granted permission.

Rather than market Signals as a standalone enterprise microblogging tool – of which there are already many – it’s integrated into Socailtext’s broader social networking and wiki platform, which already includes features like activity streams so you know when colleagues edit wikis, make a blog post, or upload a document, for example.
