New president means new look, features for whitehouse.gov

Tue, Jan 20th, 2009

As Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States this morning, WhiteHouse.gov saw its own changes applied almost immediately. Featuring an all-new design, the new site touts the Obama administration's ideals of transparency, communication, and participation.

Besides the White House logo and a similar base color scheme, the new WhiteHouse.gov site looks almost nothing like its predecessor, but it does continue the aesthetic style of the Obama transitional Change.gov site. Front and center is a rotating banner of "feature" stories and photography, and directly below that are recent posts from the new White House blog, an agenda of current hot-topic issues, and what is, at least for now, a video spot featuring Obama's Train Tour for today's inauguration.

......

The first blog post, titled Change has come to WhiteHouse.gov, offers a few details of the site's redesign and purpose moving forward. It points out the new e-mail update system, which visitors are encouraged to sign up for, and even the blog's RSS feed. Transparency is also a primary focus for the site, as President Obama's executive orders and proclamations will be published for review, and "that's just the beginning of our efforts to provide a window for all Americans into the business of the government."

Our system thought this story was mainly about: Barack Obama, 44th President
